What is Tarnish Free Jewelry?

The truth is the term tarnish free jewelry is a bit of a misnomer.  Why?  Because all jewelry, including expensive metals, such as 14k gold (both white and yellow) and platinum will eventually show some level of tarnish and wear after a period of time.  The fact is it’s impossible for these metals to come into continued contact with moisture, oils, acids and air without succumbing to the natural process of oxidation. Unfortunately, no metal is immune!  However, there are metals that tarnish at a much slower rate than others, lending them to become known as tarnish free, water-resistant and more hypoallergenic than other metals.  And those are the metals we sell here. 

 

What are the best metals for longevity?

If you want to grow your jewelry collection then your best bet for your money is going to be high quality sterling silver, also known as 925 sterling silver, stainless steel and brass.  But what about gold?  Gold jewelry has made a come back in the world of fashion jewelry, which has caused many companies (including ours) to sell 14-18k gold-plated jewelry as a more affordable option to standard gold pieces.

For an item to be considered gold plated, it goes through a process that involves bonding a layer of either  14k or 18k gold to a base metal using an electric current (the base metals for our jewelry items can be found in the description of each product & as an FYI, sterling silver is the most hypoallergenic base metal). This layer of gold can generally be between 0.5 microns & 2.5 microns thick.  This process helps give the look of gold, but at a fraction of the cost.  

 

How to care for your jewelry?

To keep your jewelry in the best condition it is advised that you remove your jewelry before you shower or workout.  It is also best to keep moisturizers and perfumes away from it, as the oils and acids in these products can cause the gold-plating to fade more quickly than necessary.  When not wearing your pieces it is best to keep them in a soft cloth or jewelry box to avoid dust and air oxidation.  

 

Shipping

Standard U.S. & International shipping rates vary and are determined by the weight of the product(s) shipped & your location.  All orders will be shipped within 1-3 days of purchase.    

(If your order includes a handmade item - all handmade items will have *handmade* in the description, please allow 1-2 weeks for your item to be individually hand crafted for you before it is shipped out).

You will be sent a confirmation email once your order is placed & a second email with your tracking number once the order has shipped. If you do not receive a shipping confirmation, please reach out to us at shop.theredlands@gmail.com & we will look into your order.  Once your package has shipped, delivery is expected within 5-7 business days (Monday-Friday) depending on your location.

Please note, once your order has shipped out, The Redlands is no longer responsible for the package.  If your package is lost, damaged, or delayed, please reach out to your local post office with the tracking number.

 

Return Policy

If you are unhappy with a product for any reason, please let us know.  We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return. 


To start a return, please contact us at shop.theredlands@gmail.com and we will be happy to assist you. 

When your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label, as well as instructions on how and where to send your package.  Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted. 

 

Exchange Policy 

The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item.

 

Refunds 

We will notify you once we’ve received your return and have initiated your refund.  Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund.

Damaged items

Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can make it right. 

Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.
